English Words with Funny Translations (By Cosy)

Throughout this course, we have discovered some translation between Chinese and English. As these two languages have totally different form of writing, ie. Chinese uses characters while English uses letters, we will not mix up the meaning of the translated word. This, however, is not the case in some western countries. Feeling confused about what I am talking about? Let’s watch the video and you may figure out something.

Funny? Haha. I think this video does not only share the funny translation between English words, but also let us know more the culture of foreign countries. If we do not understand their cultures, we may easily get confused about what people are saying. People may think we are impolite and they may feel embarrassed as well. For example, just imagine you are in Hungary. You feel hungry and you just tell the Hungarian: “May I have a piece of cookie?” How embarrassing would it be?

Besides, do you have any similar experience about expressing ideas while people misunderstood them? You may comment and share with us! For people who are going to have exchange in Western countries, please do more research on the culture and language to avoid some embarrassing moments! haha
