Niche Media of Chinese in Foreign Countries - By Mandy Tse

We are all in the new era of the ever-going internet. Many newsgroups,  journals ,magazines and even radio and TV programs were became online-based. The concept on "mass media" was being redefined. In many parts of the world, the ethnic media, or the media targeted at a particular ethnic group, have existed along with the mainstream media. As we all know, there are billions of Chinese diaspora all over the world. Internet can definitely help them to be gathered.
Before the internet boost, the ethnic Chinese group has declined because of the political reason that the local government wanted to suppress the influence of Chinese culture. Although the new immigration from China and other Chinese-speaking regions can help to boost the development of ethnic Chinese group overseas, the new generation can be changed by the new society they meet. The Chinese culture would become hard to be protect.

Thanks to the Internet, the Chinese can now share their information  and communicate easily though internet without any restriction from the local government. Minority language newspapers helped minority people to keep their ethnic identity , because they function to pass on knowledge, values and norms from one generation to another or from the members of a society to newcomers.
