China internet word "no zuo no die" added into American online slang dictionary “Urban Dictionary”


"no zuo no die ", one of the top ten internet buzzwords in Weibo in 2013, was recently found to have successfully entered the U.S. Online Slang Dictionary Urban Dictionary. This new word created in 15th January 2014. "no zuo no die " comes from the word "not seek death will not die", which is popular in the internet widely. In the dictionary, it explained that “This phrase is of Chinglish origin. Means if you don't do stupid things, they won't come back and bite you in the ass. (But if you do, they most certainly will) Zuo /zwo/ is a Chinese character meaning 'act silly or daring (for attention)”. Someone alleged that the source of the word is from a dialog which is in a Japanese animation called “Gundum”. This dictionary contains a lot of popular English slang which cannot be found in the traditional dictionary. The latest appears are "you can you up" which means "if you can't do it then don't even criticize it".

Recently, "Oxford English Dictionary" contains about 120 words which from Chinese origin, many of them are in the form of phonetic transliteration, such as "guanxi ", ​​"dim sum ", "Maotai" and so on.


From the above “Chinglish” words, we can the soft power of China is become more influential to the world. Since many “Chinglish” words, which come from Chinese, are added into the western authoritative dictionaries. Those new words are commonly use in the internet and become more popular. It shows that the Chinese culture and language are prevalent on the networking world.
