Running Man x Chinese New Year- by James Wong Hau Fung

Hello everyone, have you watched a popular Korean variety show called Running Man? A recent episode (episode 182: 2014-01-26) is related to a traditional Chinese chess game. A draft proposed by a Hong Kong girl Irene is accepted by the production team. You probably be interested in the video she produced, which includes 3 kinds of languages. It concludes English, Korean and Chinese, which raise awareness of audience from different part of the world for promotion purposes, gaining visibility in the mediaspaces. The girl speaks English and the subtitles are in English. It acts as a symbolic capital for the proposal, showing the affiliation of Hong Kong to the English speaking world.

It is interesting to see her translation of the chess

/-general
/-cart
/-horse
/-cannon
/-soldier

First, the Chinese word/ is translated to general. A definition from the Yahoo dictionary is an officer of very high rank in the army or air force, which is suitable to this title. But I wonder the translation of/and/. I guess / represent a car equipped with weapons while cart may not show this meaning. I think Chariots (from wiki) is more suitable. Also, / may represent a weapon that use stone as a source but not cannon that use bomb as a source so I think Trebuchet (from a game called Age of Empires  世紀帝國)

Besides, the transliteration and translation of the nickname of different actors are also interesting.
Yoo Jae-suk 劉在石
Ji Suk-jin 池石鎮
the translated names of the tow older( more mature) actors has the word , which has the symbolic meaning of reliable. It also represents people who are mentally and/or physically strong. I think it is quite suitable for Jae-suk, who shows his leadership in the show.

Kim Jong-kook 金鐘國
- country
He is strong and powerful.
Nickname: Sparta 能力者

Lee Kwang-soo 李光洙
- light and warmth
Lee Kwang-soo usually play trick on others , act as a funny and sunny character .
Nickname: Giraffes 長頸鹿

Ha Dong-hoon/ Haha 河東勳/哈哈
哈哈- laughter
Hanas overexcited acting is very interesting, making the audience and even other team members laugh.
Nickname: Haroro

Song Ji-hyo 宋智孝
-wisdom
She is the only girl in the team, who wins the game in a strategic and clever way.
Nickname: Ace 皇牌智孝

Kang Hee-gun姜熙建
Nickname: Gary Gary
He is a popular rapper, who may win the game in an unpredictable way.

Actually, I appreciate her act, which spread the beauty of Chinese culture like Lion Dance (舞狮) and Chinese Chess (象棋) to the foreign world. I hope I can do so in the future~

By the way, I am not good at Korean so I don't know whether there are  interesting things in the English she speak and the Korean shown at the end of the video.  Is there anyone who are good at Korean? I hope you can share your view~
